Targeted therapies in lung cancer.

چکیده
The quality-of-life and overall survival are improved by platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with localized or disseminated small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) [1, 2]. In nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), platinum-based combinations with new agents (vinorelbine, gemcitabine, taxanes) improve survival in both resected and advanced NSCLC patients [3–6]. Nevertheless, a therapeutic plateau has been reached with classical cytotoxic agents. Recent advances in cancer biology have led to the identification of new targets in neoplastic cells. Hence, targeting agents have been developed, opening new perspectives in lung cancer treatment. In this article, we review the main targeted therapies in lung cancer by the proposed classification of different cancer cell pathways [7]. In particular, we will focus on cell growth pathways, programmed cell death (apoptosis), neo-angiogenic factors, local invasion and distant metastatic processes.

Identification of a Novel Tumor-Binding Peptide for Lung Cancer Through in-vitro Panning
Tumor-targeted therapies are playing growing roles in cancer research. The exploitation of these powerful therapeutic modalities largely depends on the discovery of tumor-targeting ligands. Phage display has proven a promising high throughput screening tool for the identification of novel specific peptides with high binding affinity to cancer cells. In the present study, we describe the use of ...

متن کاملTargeted Therapies for Pancreatic Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer related death and by 2030, it will be second only to lung cancer. We have seen tremendous advances in therapies for lung cancer as well as other solid tumors using a molecular targeted approach but our progress in treating pancreatic cancer has been incremental with median overall survival remaining less than one year. There is an urgent ne...
متن کاملSystemic Targeted Alpha Radiotherapy for Cancer
Background: The fundamental principles of internal targeted alpha therapy for cancer were established many decades ago.The high linear energy transfer (LET) of alpha radiation to the targeted cancer cellscauses double strand breaks in DNA. At the same time, the short range radiation spares adjacent normal tissues. This targeted approach complements conventional external beam radiotherapy and ch...
متن کاملThe effect of melatonin on Superoxide dismutase and Glutathione peroxidase activity, and Malondialdehyde levels in the targeted and the non-targeted lung and heart tissues after irradiation in xenograft mice colon cancer
Introduction: Introduction: Radiation causes damage to irradiated tissues and also tissues that do not receive direct irradiation through a phenomenon called bystander effects. Melatonin as a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent is known for protection of normal tissues against ionizing irradiation. In addition, some studies have suggested that Melatonin may have some...
متن کاملClinical potential of gene mutations in lung cancer
Lung cancer is the most common cancer type worldwide and the leading cause of cancer related deaths in the United States. The majority of newly diagnosed patients present with late stage metastatic lung cancer that is inoperable and resistant to therapies. High-throughput genomic technologies have made the identification of genetic mutations that promote lung cancer progression possible. Identi...
